Hey Everyone!
I hope that your 2020 has been off to a great start so far! It felt like a real short week here going from just New Years Day to Monday, So not a ton of stuff happened, but here are your highlights!
So to start off we had MLC again, the mission leadership conference, and that is always quite the time. One thing that was really good from that was our President's training. He talked about being a leader like King Benjamin was. He highlighted some great points and really helped us see the best way we can help out in the mission. It can be as simple as serving one to another, keeping the commandments and giving our all to the Lord. As we strive to be leaders like him and do those things, then just as he saw with his people, we can see that mighty change of heart with those we work with, and the missionaries that we serve around. We just have to give our all, soul and strength to the Lord.
We had a lesson with this guy that has known the church since the 70s and has read the Book of Mormon more than 20 times, so he is a fun time. We are really helping him just see the importance that the time is now and that he can no longer procrastinate taking those steps to grow closer to God and receive all those blessings that he is missing out on just because he has yet to make that decision and do all the requirements.
We had a super cool chance with some service this last week. So on Christmas or just after, somewhere around then, I don't keep up on the news believe it or not, but there was a hotel fire here that burned down the entire building. The hotel was being used as a place to house those that were either homeless or in need of a little extra assistance right now in their lives. No one was killed in the accident, but everyone lost all their stuff and were in a pretty bad situation. So we got to go on Friday and help them out. There was a bunch of difference agencies and donations that we got to help them get in contact with and get the help that they needed. It was a good time. It was cool to see how humble and grateful and in good spirits the most of them were. There were a handful that were bitter that they weren't getting cash or this or that, and that was sad. Trials are going to come our way in life, its just a thing that happens, and here God is providing another opportunity, direct blessings and there were some that just couldn't realize that. In talking with one of the guys, from Ohio originally, so you know he was a cool guy, we just talked a lot about your attitude in life. Here he is with just the clothes on his back and without a lasting home, and he is thanking God. We talked about how no matter where you are in life all you can do is be happy and look for the joy. Life isn't fair, and you're not always going to be on the uphill, but its up to you to decide how you will react and if you will let it influence you negatively or positively. Because at the end of the day, that day is gone, and you wont get it back, so you might as well spend it joyfully.
Also this week I got to do an exchange with the Spanish elders here which is always just good for my heart to be in that work again for a day. We had all sorts of fun biking and bus experiences that day. On the way home, after a whole lot of bus complications, this guy comes and sits next to me and asks me to "Bless him up". And although it may not be typical, man is it fun to say this prayer on a bus with this guy chanting Amen as you bless him up, gotta love the cities.
Well all, hope you had a great week and you all feel blessed up!
Give your all to God and be grateful! Love you all!
Elder Pickering
