Well, as everyone is fully aware, the Corona Virus has affected the world in crazy ways and no one's life resemble normal at this time. And it is very evident with the missionaries. These past few weeks have been a trial for Elder Pickering. Minnesota has been on a stay at home order since mid March. This is not how he imagined the end of his mission would go down. It is sad for him not to be able to visit his investigators in person, or attend the ward he was just getting to know, or enjoy meals with the members or even visiting with other missionaries and the Mission President. There are many hours to try and fill with productive activities to keep their minds engaged and to honor the stewardship of their callings. Days are long for sure and questions can creep in and cause doubt on many levels.
In spite of it all, Ryan has stayed pretty positive. He is able to be in contact with us more often and I think it helps all of us. He has stayed busy teaching English lessons on line, attending Zoom institute classes and meetings, doing outdoor service whenever the weather is permitting, developing some new talents, biking many beautiful local trails and truly immersing himself in his language and Gospel study. He is trying to be the best he can be under these circumstances. At times he wonders why he is still there, but we all know that God has His reasons and blessings continue to come.
It won't be long now until he is home with us to weather out the Covid quarantine. But in the meantime, he is sprinting until the end.
